MORHARDT, J* EMIL, AND SYLVIA S. MORHARDT. C’orrelation bafween heart rate and oxygen consumption in rodents. Am. J. Phvsiol. 221(6): 15804586. I97 1 .-Heart rates (fh , transmitted by surgically impLanted radiotelemetry transmitters) and oxygen consumption (VOW) were measured simultaneousIy from a series of rodents. Large ranges of fh and ~OZ were obtained by allowing spontaneous activity and by changing the temperature within the metabolism chambers. There were highly significant direct correlations between fh and VO, in all instances, and additional regressions were calculated for other small mammals from data in the Xiterature. The physiological significance of the shapes and slopes of the regression lines is discussed, as is the utility of the regressions for predicting VO:! from fh in animals not in metabolism chambers. RESPONSES OF OXYGEN CONSUMPTION, HEART RATE AND PERCEIVED EXERTION TO CRUTCH WALKING: A COMPARISON BE TWEEN PAR APLEGIC AND ABLE-BODIED SUBJECTS
In this study, 10 normal volunteers and 5 sports-trained paraplegics with lesions between T6 and L2 were studied whilst walking with axillary crutches and knee-anlde-foot orthoses. All subjects walked at their preferred speed on a figureof- eight track. Normal subjects also walked at slower and faster speeds. Oxygen consumption, heart rate and rating of perceived exertion were measured. In...

Background: Fatigue is an important inhibiting factor in human performance, so with rising aerobic power could be overcome individual fatigue. Based on the importance of maximum oxygen consumption at fatigue threshold, the purpose of this study was to evaluate changes in temperature of the maximum rate of oxygen consumption and time to exhaustion in workers of spinning factory. Methods: In thi...
متن کاملHand Grip Strength and Myocardial Oxygen Consumption Index among Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Patients
Background: Hand grip strength (HGS) is a reliable indicator of peripheral muscle strength. Although, numerous studies have investigated the strength of hand grip; little attention has been given to coronary artery disease (CAD) patients, exploring the relationship between HGS and myocardial oxygen consumption (MVO2) index. The current study aimed to evaluate the interaction between HGS and MVO...
متن کاملMathematical Modeling and Expression of Heart Rate Deflection Point using Heart Rate and Oxygen Consumption
Heart rate deflection point (HRDP) can be determined through different mathematical-modeling procedures, such as bi-segmental linear regression (2SEG) or maximal distance model (Dmax). The purpose was to compare heart rate (HR) and oxygen consumption (VO2) at HRDP when using 2SEG and Dmax, and to examine their relationships with respiratory compensation point (RCP) and running performance. Nine...
